Strengthening TUKE International Partnerships

On 4 June 2021, TUKE was honoured by the visit of the new Ambassador of Japan, H. E. Mr. Makoto Nakagawa, who has been in office since 20 August 2020, and it was his first personal visit to a university in Slovakia.

On 18 June 2021, H. E. Nigel Marcus Baker, Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, visited three universities in Košice. The initial reception took place at the premises of the UPJŠ Rectorate in the presence of three rectors. After a tour of the UPJŠ premises, the Ambassador moved to the premises of our university.

On 29 June 2021, H. E. Barbara Wolf, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, accompanied by prof. Juraj Banský, the Honorary Consul of Germany in Košice, visited the TUKE.

The morning of 2 July 2021 was in the spirit of strengthening the French-Slovak partnership as our university was visited by a delegation consisting of Mr. Christophe Léonzi, Ambassador of the Republic of France, Mr. Jean-Marc Cassam-Chenaï, Cultural Adviser and Director of the French Institute in Slovakia, Mr. Yan Pautrat, Attaché for Academic and Scientific Cooperation, and Mr. Ján Mati, President of the French Alliance in Košice.

On 5 August 2021, the TUKE executives welcomed on the premises of the University the Chinese delegation consisting of Lijie Sun, Ambassador of People's Republic of China, Xuxin Yu, Commercial Counsellor, Jie Zhou, Head of the Political Section, and Shenmin Zhang, the Third Secretary of the Commercial Section.

The Rector of TUKE, prof. Stanislav Kmeť, acquainted the guests with the current state and the latest results of our university and outlined the directions of further development in its key domains. The program of visits continued with tours of selected workplaces and laboratories.

June Celebration of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering 2021

On 25 June 2021, the June celebration of employees and doctoral students of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of TUKE took place in teaching and training centre in Herľany. Great weather and the opportunity to see each other after a year were appreciated by all. As every year, not only the excellent food was served but many sports activities and awards for exceptional results in 2020 were prepared. In the category of “Pedagogical Personality of the Year”, prof. Bača, who received the most votes from students, has won for the second time in a row. It was also an opportunity to say goodbye to three outgoing professors – prof. Homišin, prof. Mihók and prof. Šimšík.

The Faculty of Aeronautics and the Faculty of Arts Have New Deans

Two faculties of the Technical University of Košice have new deans. At the beginning of May 2021, doc. Ing. Peter Korba, PhD., ING-PAED IGIP, took over the post of the Dean of the Faculty of Aeronautics and in four-year term of office replaced the previous Dean of this faculty, Dr. h. c. prof. h. c. doc. Ing. Stanislav Szabo, PhD., MBA, LL.M., adjunct prof. On 5 May 2021, prof. Ing. Tibor Uhrín, ArtD. was appointed to the position of Dean of the Faculty of Arts for the term of office 2021 – 2025. He took over this function after the previous Dean doc. Ing. Ján Kanócz, CSc., who has been the Dean for two terms since 2013. We wish both newly appointed deans a lot of success.

Online TUKE Children's University 2021

This year's TUKE Children's University 2021 took place online again. Competitors had the opportunity to participate in tasks, quizzes and competitions organized by TUKE faculties and to win valuable prizes. In addition to competitions, several lectures were prepared for them. As part of the activities of the Faculty of Materials, Metallurgy and Recycling, the children could watch several videos and afterwards participate in a knowledge quiz. The Faculty of Civil Engineering has prepared several interactive tasks for children, including the design of a birdhouse, the construction of an exceptional bridge or the drawing of a construction shaft. The activities of the Faculty of Arts included several art and photography competitions, two quizzes and an online interactive lecture for children. We believe that these activities not only made the summer more pleasant for the children, but that they also learned something new. We congratulate all the winners of the online TUKE Children's University 2021, and we thank the organisers of the activities for their time and energy dedicated to the education of children and the young.

Opening of the Battery Research and Innovation Laboratory

On 18 August 2021, the Faculty of Materials, Metallurgy and Recycling of TUKE solemnly signed together with the Institute of Materials Research SAS and the Institute of Geotechnics SAS in Košice the “Agreement on Cooperation for the Establishment of a Joint Battery Research and Innovation Laboratory”. The purpose of this cooperation is the integration of research capacities into the joint platform of the Faculty of Materials, Metallurgy and Recycling of TUKE, the Institute of Materials Research SAS and the Institute of Geotechnics SAS in Košice. This platform will enable effective research and development in new materials for battery systems, smart monitoring of properties and transfer of research results into concrete innovative solutions. We can be the part of the latest trends only thanks to skilful and passionate scientists.

The TUKE Doctoral Student Became the Paralympic Winner

Samuel Andrejčík, the TUKE student of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Informatics and the Slovak national boccia team member, won a gold medal in the BC4 class at the Paralympic Games in Tokyo. In the final, he defeated Pornchok Larpyen from Thailand 4-0. After the silver from 2016 Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro, Andrejčík added the most valuable metal to his Paralympic collection. “It's a great feeling. I am very happy that the five years of waiting for the Paralympics are over and that none of the preparations have been wasted. We worked really hard. Until the final day, everything went so well that today I am wearing a gold medal and for the next three years until Paris I will be the reigning Paralympic champion,” said 24-year-old Andrejčík for the paralympic.sk website. The Slovak sensation in Tokyo continued with the success of the trio consisting of Samuel Andrejčík, Michaela Balcová and Martin Strehársky. Athletes retained GOLD in the BC4 mixed pairs competition.
